At long last, the new edition of our guidebook to the Camino del Norte and Camino Primitivo has been released by Cicerone Press. Formerly known as The Northern Caminos, this updated version has seen the section on the Camino Inglés shifted to a separate book, in order to create a bit more space for new alternative routes while also shrinking the size and weight.
The biggest highlight in this new edition is completely overhauled maps, far more appealing and useful than the earlier iteration. We have city maps, too! Check out San Sebastián:
And hey, we’ve got elevation profiles, as well:
In addition to those new elements, some of the most notable content additions include:
- A new overview of the Voie Littorale, connecting Bayonne/Biarritz with Hendaye/Hondarribia/Irún, making it possible to step off the plane at Biarritz Airport and begin your Norte
- Short overviews of two mini-pilgrimages that can be made as detours off of the Norte: the Camino Lebaniego, to Santo Toribio de Liébana, and the Camino Covadonga, to one of the most sacred shrines in Asturias
- The “Ruta Verde,” linking the Primitivo with the Norte, from just after Lugo to Sobrado dos Monxes
- Lots of alternative routes, including a coastal approach from Hondarribia and a stunning oceanside walk from Santander to Boo de Piélagos. Check out this short article for more on those coastal variants
We’re really excited to finally have this new edition in circulation. Note that the ebook version will come out in the weeks ahead, so stay tuned.
